Greeting from the Director

director NHO (National Hospital Organization) Shizuoka Institute of Epilepsy and Neurological Disorders was created through the organizational merger of the National Sanatorium Shizuoka East Hospital (Epilepsy Center) and the National Shizuoka General Hospital in 2001. It is a hospital for patients with epilepsy, neurological intractable diseases/dementia, and severe mental and physical disabilities, and is committed to team medicine by staff from multiple professions.

In the field of epilepsy, approximately 25 doctors including neurologists, pediatricians, psychiatrists, and neurosurgeons from all over Japan provide specialized medical care. We also strive to provide community medical care as the Shizuoka Prefecture Epilepsy Support Base Hospital.

For neurological intractable diseases and dementia, the hospital provides comprehensive care in collaboration with local medical institutions and visiting nursing stations, and is designated as a medical center for dementia diseases by Shizuoka Prefecture and Shizuoka City.

For severe motor and intellectual disabilities, in addition to caring for approximately 160 residential children or adults, we also provide day-care support and short-term residential care. For more details, please see the pages of each department.

Our goal is to provide peace of mind to everyone involved in the patient's illness and/or disabilities, including the patient and family, caregivers in the community, and those involved in education and employment, through high-quality comprehensive medical care.We sincerely hope to make everyone's life easier and more satisfying. The staff working at the hospital is committed to providing the best of their professional abilities. We widely accept overseas physicians and laboratory technicians for epilepsy training purposes.

We also accept overseas patients with epilepsy for diagnosis and treatment, including outpatient visits and hospitalization for examination and/or treatment. Please see below for more information.
